Mark Twain Behavioral Health (MTBH) is a private not-for-profit community mental health center serving the citizens of northeast Missouri since 1975. MTBH is governed by a volunteer board of directors living throughout a nine county area, which includes the counties of Adair, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Macon, Marion, Schuyler, Scotland and Shelby.
MTBH opened in Hannibal, Missouri on February 1, 1975 with funding through federal grant dollars. A full-time office was established in Kirksville with satellite offices to be developed in the Macon and Memphis communities. Federal funding changed in 1981 when contracts were established with the Missouri Department of Mental Health. This allowed for an array of affordable behavioral health services to be offered to the service area. Since that time MTBH has served as the Administrative Agent for the Department of Mental Health in Service Area 14.
Today, Mark Twain Behavioral Health provides a wide range of services for adults, youth and families which include: Psychiatry and Medication Management, Counseling, Community Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program, Healthcare Home, Access Crisis Intervention Services-24 Hour Crisis Line, Emergency Room Enhancement Program and Educational Services including Mental Health First Aid.
MTBH is committed to caring for the individuals and the families that we serve and improving their overall health by providing a wrap-around treatment philosophy. This approach allows us to utilize a unique set of services and natural supports for the purpose of achieving positive health outcomes.
Mark Twain Behavioral Health is committed to enhancing the health and wellbeing of those we serve as well as creating a culture of wellness for our employees. The MTBH Employee Wellness Program offers events and health challenges to promote a variety of healthy behaviors.
