Community members are encouraged to safely dispose of unused or expired medications during the upcoming Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Adair County Public Library. Residents of Adair County and surrounding communities are invited to participate.
This event aligns with the national initiative, DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which aims to prevent medication misuse, reduce overdose risk, and protect the environment by providing a safe and convenient way to dispose of medications.
Residents may drop off:
  • Prescription medications
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Pills and capsules
Items that cannot be accepted include:
  • Needles or sharps
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Infectious waste
  • Thermometers
  • Aerosol cans
In addition to safe disposal services, attendees will receive a free medication locking bag while supplies last, helping families store medications securely at home.
This event is a partnership between the Adair County Health Department, Adair County Sheriff’s Office, and the Adair County Public Library, with additional support from students in Truman State University’s Health Science Department.
No appointment is necessary, and the service is free and anonymous.
For more information about safe medication disposal, visit the official DEA Take Back Day website.
